Synonyms: Dimodosaurus,‭ ‬Gresslyosaurus,‭ ‬Pachysaurops,‭ ‬Pachysaurus,‭ ‬Pachysauriscus,‭ ‬Sellosaurus.‭ ‬Former Plateosaurus species that are either invalid or referred to the type species include P.‭ ‬erlenbergensis,‭ ‬P.‭ ‬integer,‭ ‬P.‭ ‬longiceps,‭ ‬P.‭ ‬plieningeri,‭ ‬P.‭ ‬quenstedti and P.‭ ‬reinigeri.

Known locations: Across Europe.‭ ‬Also in Greenland‭ ‬-‭ ‬Fleming Fjord Formation.
Time period: Norian to Rhaetian of the Triassic.
Fossil representation: Multiple individuals,‭ ‬some very well preserved.‭ ‬Adults and subadults known.
